Actor Akili McDowell Arrested and Charged with Murder in Houston

 

American actor Akili McDowell, known for his role in the TV series David Makes Man, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Cesar Peralta in Houston, Texas. The incident, which occurred on July 20, has shocked fans and the entertainment industry alike.

McDowell, 21, was booked into Harris County Jail on August 1, facing charges of both murder and theft. The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest on August 3, following a social media update that detailed the incident. According to the report, deputies responded to a shooting at an apartment complex located at 13503 North Thorntree, near Wallisville and Uvalde in East Harris County, around 9:15 p.m. Peralta was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office's social media update stated: "An adult male (possibly in his 20s) sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Suspect(s) fled the scene." The subsequent update revealed that Akili McDowell had been charged with the murder of Cesar Peralta, and that the investigation was ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.

McDowell's bond has been set at $400,000 for the murder charge, while his bond for the theft charge is set at $210. He has court appearances scheduled for August 5 for the theft charge and October 9 for the murder charge. The theft charge reportedly relates to a separate misdemeanor case from July 2023, involving the alleged theft of a pair of headphones.

In response to the arrest, McDowell’s manager Jonell Whitt commented, "The arrest is an unfortunate situation, and I am in prayer for Akili and those impacted by this tragedy. I respectfully have no comment at this time."

McDowell is recognized for his role as David in the critically acclaimed series David Makes Man, which explores the life of a young boy navigating the challenges of poverty and personal loss.
