Authorities have identified 15-year-old Natalie 'Samantha' Rupnow as the shooter in the tragic school shooting that took place at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, December 16. Rupnow opened fire on students and teachers before taking her own life.
The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m., when Rupnow, armed and reportedly struggling with personal issues, entered a mixed-grade study hall and began shooting in front of terrified students. The rampage left one student and one teacher dead, while two others remain in critical condition at a local hospital.
Rupnow's family home was raided by SWAT teams following the incident. Authorities are currently reviewing writings and evidence found at the residence. A manifesto linked to the shooter surfaced on social media, but law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed its authenticity.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed that the shooter had been present at school from the start of the day before opening fire. Rupnow succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound while being transported to the hospital.
A law enforcement source revealed to CNN that the teen had been grappling with personal problems and had expressed her struggles in writings now under review.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the tragedy, including potential motives behind the attack. Meanwhile, the Madison community remains in shock as they mourn the victims and search for answers.
