Renowned rapper and entrepreneur JAY-Z, through his lawyer Alex Spiro, has strongly denied allegations of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside fellow music mogul Diddy following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Speaking at Roc Nation's New York City headquarters on Tuesday, December 17, Spiro presented evidence challenging the lawsuit’s claims and dismissed the accusations as baseless.
Spiro meticulously dissected the accuser’s narrative, highlighting numerous inconsistencies. He presented photos showing JAY-Z at a different event than the one described in the lawsuit and noted that none of Diddy’s properties at the time matched the location cited by the accuser.
“There is no such location,” Spiro stated, suggesting the location may have been fabricated to establish jurisdiction in New York.
Spiro also pointed out logistical implausibilities in the timeline of events described in the lawsuit. The accuser claimed she was taken to an afterparty, assaulted, and then fled to a gas station where her father, who was reportedly five hours away, picked her up “shortly before dawn.”
“These are not minor inconsistencies. If you look at the time, it’s not possible this could happen,” Spiro argued, expressing confidence that the case would either be dismissed or fall apart under scrutiny.
Spiro further debunked the claim that the accuser watched the VMAs on a jumbotron outside Radio City Music Hall, noting that no jumbotron was present that year. He also stated it would have been impossible for her to approach Diddy’s limousine due to heavy street closures for Eminem’s iconic VMAs performance.
Spiro rejected allegations suggesting a close relationship between JAY-Z and Diddy, emphasizing that their interactions were strictly professional.
“Mr. Carter [JAY-Z] has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case or allegations,” Spiro said. “They knew each other professionally, attended events, and supported one another as industry colleagues. There is no closer association beyond that.”
In a statement, JAY-Z expressed frustration over the lawsuit and its impact on his family.
“He’s upset that somebody would make a mockery of the system like this,” Spiro said. “This kind of false claim distracts and discourages real victims from coming forward.”
JAY-Z also issued a direct statement condemning the lawsuit:
“Today’s investigative report proves this ‘attorney’ Buzbee filed a false complaint against me in the pursuit of money and fame. This incident didn’t happen, and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press. True Justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began.”
The accuser recently admitted to NBC News that she made “some mistakes” in her recollection of the alleged events. Despite this, her attorney, Tony Buzbee, maintained that factual disputes should be resolved in court, not in press conferences.
As the case unfolds, both sides have remained firm in their positions. While JAY-Z and his legal team have dismissed the allegations as meritless, the accuser's legal team has reiterated their commitment to pursuing the matter through the judicial system.
