Latvian Basketball Star Janis Timma Found Dead in Moscow After Tragic Fall

Latvian professional basketball player Janis Timma has tragically passed away following a reported fall from an apartment building in Moscow. The 32-year-old EuroLeague star, known for his stints with Zenit Saint Petersburg and Olympiacos, was found in the stairwell of a high-rise residential building, according to Mail Online.

Authorities have ruled suicide as the preliminary cause of death. Reports indicate that a phone was found near Timma’s body, with a message from his ex-wife, Ukrainian singer and actress Anna Sedokova. The incident occurred on Monday, coincidentally on Sedokova’s birthday.

Timma and Sedokova, who married in 2020, had recently gone through a separation, with Sedokova filing for divorce earlier this year. On Tuesday morning, a grief-stricken Sedokova shared an emotional tribute to Timma on her Instagram account.

Standing at 6ft 7in, Timma was an accomplished small forward. He was selected as the 60th overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2013 NBA Draft and was later traded to the Orlando Magic, where he participated in the 2021 NBA Summer League.

Timma also had a decorated international career, representing Latvia in multiple tournaments. He was part of the team that secured a bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA U18 European Championship. Since making his senior team debut in 2014, Timma played 35 matches for Latvia, scoring a total of 338 points.

The news of Timma's death has sent shockwaves through the basketball community, with fans and teammates mourning the loss of a talented player whose career spanned over a decade. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.

Timma will be remembered not only for his skills on the court but also for his contributions to Latvian basketball and his successful career across European leagues.
