Marcus Rashford Hints at Departure From Manchester United After Two Decades

England forward Marcus Rashford has revealed he is prepared to leave Manchester United, the club he has called home since he was seven, amid growing speculation that he is up for sale.

The 27-year-old’s admission comes after being excluded from United’s squad in Sunday’s derby victory over Manchester City. Manager Ruben Amorim reportedly made the decision based on Rashford’s recent performances, further fueling rumors of a potential exit ahead of the January transfer window.

Speaking to journalist Henry Winter during a visit to his old primary school, where he distributed 420 gifts to children, Rashford candidly discussed his future.

“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he shared. “When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings.’ You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s just not who I am.”

Reflecting on his departure, Rashford added: “I’ve seen how other players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person. When I go, I’ll make a statement, and it’ll come directly from me.”

Despite his intentions to move on, Rashford reiterated his loyalty to the club. When asked if he would “always be a Red,” he replied unequivocally: “Yes! 100 percent.”

Rashford addressed his omission from the Manchester derby, describing it as a setback but maintaining a mature perspective.

“It’s disheartening to be left out of a derby, but we won the game, so let’s move on,” he said. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to handle setbacks. What can I do—sit there and cry about it? Or prepare to give my best the next time I’m available?”

The academy graduate also looked ahead to the future, expressing a desire to represent England at the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

“I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my peak to be now,” he noted. “The Premier League has taught me a lot over the past nine years, and I’ve grown as a player and person. I have no regrets about what’s happened so far, and I won’t have any going forward because I take life day by day.”

Rashford, who has previously played in the World Cups in Russia (2018) and Qatar (2022), spoke passionately about the thrill of representing his country on football’s biggest stage.

“Playing for your country in the World Cup is an unbelievable experience,” he said. “If I get the opportunity again, I’ll grab it with both hands.”

Rashford’s potential departure would mark the end of a remarkable journey that began in Manchester United’s youth academy. While his next destination remains uncertain, the forward’s graceful acknowledgment of his time at the club underscores his respect for its legacy and his hope for a positive transition.

As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on the England international to see if his desire for a “new challenge” will lead him away from Old Trafford.
