Wolves Set to Appoint Vitor Pereira as New Manager After Sacking Gary O’Neil

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement to appoint Vitor Pereira as their new manager, following the dismissal of Gary O’Neil. According to reports from the BBC on Tuesday, the Premier League side will pay approximately €1 million ($1 million) to secure Pereira’s release from his role at Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab.

The 56-year-old Portuguese coach is expected to sign a one-and-a-half-year contract with Wolves, with personal terms reportedly finalized. Pereira is scheduled to arrive in England on Tuesday, and official confirmation of his appointment is anticipated within 24 hours.

Pereira brings a wealth of experience to the Premier League, having managed several top clubs across Europe and beyond. His achievements include two Primeira Liga titles with FC Porto and a Greek Super League championship with Olympiakos.

In 2022, Pereira was close to taking over as Everton manager, but the move ultimately fell through. Wolves now hope his extensive experience can help revive their fortunes in the league.

Wolves’ decision to sack Gary O’Neil came after a string of poor performances. The team suffered their fourth consecutive defeat on Saturday, leaving them second from the bottom of the Premier League table with just nine points from 16 matches.

O’Neil, who was appointed in August 2023 following Julen Lopetegui’s departure, had signed a four-year contract earlier this year. Despite this, the club opted to part ways due to their precarious league position.

Pereira’s first task will be to prepare Wolves for a crucial clash against fellow relegation battlers Leicester City on Sunday. With the team desperate for a turnaround, fans and management alike will hope that Pereira can deliver results and steer the club away from the relegation zone.

This marks a significant step in Wolves’ bid to stabilize their season and bring in a manager with a track record of success in challenging circumstances.
