Continuous Rain and Landslides Devastate China, Leading to Significant Losses

Continuous extreme downpours and landslides across much of China have caused significant human and material losses.

Tragically, six family members who fled their house in a flood-prone lowland area were found dead after the building they sought refuge in on higher ground collapsed.

Rescuers discovered the bodies in the rubble of the collapsed building in Fujian Province, which succumbed to landslides triggered by heavy rains.

Local reports indicated that the family believed the elevated building would provide safety, but a landslide caused its collapse.

Heavy rains have persisted since last Sunday in parts of China, with the death toll in Guangdong, near Fujian Province, reaching 47 by Friday, June 21.

The relentless rain and resulting floods and landslides have caused house collapses and uprooted trees.

China’s National Meteorological Centre on Saturday warned of more severe weather conditions, particularly in the southern provinces and some northern regions.
