Chiefs Owner Supports Harrison Butker’s Political Endeavors, Emphasizes Player Platforms

Kansas City Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt, expressed his support on Wednesday for kicker Harrison Butker’s formation of a political action committee (PAC), designed to encourage Christian voters to back "traditional values." Butker introduced the Upright PAC over the weekend via social media, with Missouri Senator Josh Hawley receiving Butker’s endorsement for re-election.

Hunt, addressing the initiative, said, “I encourage players to use their platform to make a difference. We have athletes with diverse political views, and I’m not concerned when they choose to express them.”

The Upright PAC, featuring Butker and Hawley, advocates for Christian values, stating, “Our values are under attack in schools, the media, and government. We’re mobilizing Christians to defend these values at the ballot box.”

This isn’t Butker’s first foray into politics. In May, he delivered a divisive commencement speech at Benedictine College, where he criticized Pride Month and President Joe Biden’s abortion stance, drawing a distinction between his views and those of the NFL.

The NFL distanced itself from Butker’s remarks, reaffirming its commitment to inclusion. Butker, however, stood by his words, saying, “I’m going to preach what I believe to be true, even if others disagree.”

The Hunt family has similarly aligned with conservative causes, recently supporting efforts to maintain Missouri’s near-total abortion ban through a $300,000 donation.

Meanwhile, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has taken a more neutral approach. Though former President Donald Trump praised his wife, Brittany, as a supporter, Mahomes has chosen not to endorse any political candidates. Instead, he encourages voters to conduct their own research and make informed decisions.

Amid political discourse, Mahomes emphasized his family’s focus on community impact, stating, “At the end of the day, it’s about how we treat others and the difference we make in people’s lives.”
