Tragic Murder of Vigilante Sparks Fear in Ahoada Town

A cloud of fear has descended upon Ahoada town in Rivers State after a tragic event on Tuesday night. Precious, a dedicated local vigilante, lost his life in a brutal attack suspected to have been carried out by cultists.

The incident occurred along the quiet stretch of Hospital Road in Ahoada East Local Government Area. Precious was ambushed during a routine patrol—a duty he often performed to ensure the community’s safety. The shocking attack has left residents on edge, with many opting to leave their homes, fearing possible retaliation. Though speculation points toward the involvement of rival cult groups, Iceland and Greenland, neither has claimed responsibility for the gruesome act.

Precious, originally from the Ihuike community in Ula-Upata Kingdom, had reportedly been targeted by these groups for some time.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the tragic development through its spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko. She stated, “Yes, we are aware of the incident. The victim was rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, was pronounced dead upon arrival. His remains have been taken to the mortuary, and we have launched a thorough investigation.”

Superintendent Iringe-Koko also emphasized the urgency of the case, noting that Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed the Area Commander and tactical units to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.

Eyewitness accounts painted a harrowing picture of the attack. Precious was initially fired upon by the armed assailants, but when the bullets seemed ineffective, they resorted to using crude weapons such as sticks and iron rods to overpower him.

“They surrounded him and began hitting him relentlessly with anything they could find,” shared one community member who wished to remain anonymous. “Eventually, they left him lifeless in a pool of blood before disappearing into the bush.”

This shocking loss has sent waves of grief and fear throughout Ahoada, a town now caught in the grip of uncertainty as authorities work tirelessly to restore order.
