Nigerian comedian SeyiLaw has sparked controversy with his recent comments on the state of security in Northern Nigeria, suggesting that regional leaders are failing to address the issue while indulging in internal conflicts. His remarks follow a throwback video of Professor Usman Yusuf, a Northern leader, expressing discontent over the security situation in the region despite holding prominent positions.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), SeyiLaw highlighted Yusuf’s concerns, which pointed out the paradox of having a Northern President, Vice President, and other key officials from the North, yet still facing severe insecurity. Yusuf criticized the current leadership, noting that regions like Katsina, despite having a President from there, are plagued by insecurity, with more local governments under siege compared to Borno State.
SeyiLaw's comment on the video was blunt: “If you like, continue to ruin your region because of the quest for power or the hate for another tribe.” His statement underscores his frustration with what he perceives as ineffective governance and regional discord.
The comedian's remarks have ignited a debate on social media, drawing attention to the ongoing challenges in Northern Nigeria. Critics argue that SeyiLaw's comments may further deepen regional divides, while others see it as a call for introspection among Northern leaders to address the root causes of insecurity and governance issues in the region.
