Two Men Extradited from Nigeria to Face Charges in U.S. Sexual Extortion Case

In a significant development in international law enforcement, United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced on August 5, 2024, that two men, Imoleayo Samuel Aina, 26, and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 24, have been extradited from Nigeria to face serious charges in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The charges are related to a high-profile case involving sexual extortion and the death of a young man.

Aina has been charged with cyberstalking, making interstate threats to injure reputation, and receiving proceeds from extortion. Both Aina and Abiodun face additional charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The duo was initially arrested in Nigeria and subsequently extradited with the aid of various international and Nigerian agencies.

The extradition process involved cooperation from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and Nigerian security authorities, including the Attorney General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Following their extradition, Aina and Abiodun appeared in federal magistrate court in Philadelphia before U.S. Magistrate Elizabeth T. Hey on August 2. The case, investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Abington Township Police Department, is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown.

Should they be convicted, Aina faces a potential life sentence, while Abiodun could receive up to 40 years in prison. The successful extradition and ongoing prosecution underscore the robust international collaboration between U.S. and Nigerian authorities in addressing complex transnational crimes.
