Jeff Bezos Dines with President-Elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago Amid Efforts to Build Ties with Tech Leaders

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was spotted entering Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday night, December 18, accompanied by his fiancĂ©e, Lauren Sanchez, for a dinner meeting with President-elect Donald Trump. The meeting marked their first interaction since Trump’s re-election victory.

The high-profile dinner comes as Trump has expressed an interest in strengthening relationships with business leaders ahead of his second term. Bezos, one of several tech magnates seeking to align with Trump, reportedly pledged a $1 million donation to the president-elect’s inaugural fund, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Bezos’ relationship with Trump has been contentious in the past, particularly due to critical coverage of Trump by The Washington Post, which Bezos owns. However, the newspaper’s decision to forgo endorsing any candidate in the 2024 election—breaking its tradition of supporting Democratic candidates—has been seen as a step toward mending ties.

Earlier this month, during an appearance at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit, Bezos expressed optimism about Trump’s second term.

“I’m actually very optimistic this time around,” Bezos said. “He seems to have a lot of energy around reducing regulation. If I can help do that, I’m going to help him. We do have too many regulations in this country.”

Bezos isn’t alone in seeking collaboration with the president-elect. Other notable tech leaders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, have expressed similar intentions. Altman and Zuckerberg have also committed to donating to Trump’s inauguration fund.

Zuckerberg, who had dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in late November, and Elon Musk, a vocal advocate for regulatory reform, have been active in the administration’s transition efforts. Musk recently urged Republicans to reject excessive spending measures that included Democratic priorities.

Trump has made it clear he values input from the business community as he prepares for his second term. During a recent event at the New York Stock Exchange, he stated:

“I want to get ideas from them. Look, we want them to do well.”

This outreach signals a shift in Trump’s approach to fostering collaboration with tech and business leaders, aiming to align their innovation and influence with his administration’s priorities.

As Trump builds his second-term team, the involvement of tech moguls like Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Musk underscores the growing intersection of technology, politics, and governance in shaping the nation’s future.
