OBAMA WARN SOUTH AFRICA OR FACE SANCTIONS

The President of the United States of America, Mr Obama has given South Africa 60 days to take of ban on U.S poultry produce or face sanctions.  South Africa ban U.S importation of poultry last December after the outbreak of bird flu.

In a Letter sent to congress, President Obama said he is going to take steps, south africa has continuing to import Oranges, Nut, and wine to the United States. Africa second larges country exports products worth $250m (£165m) annually to the United States. They also import their meat duty-free to the states

South Africa has successfully used unwarranted sanitary restrictions to keep U.S pork and beef out of South Africa

The South Africans are taking this very serious and promise to look into it and come up with a solution. Trade Minister Rob Davies told reporters in Cape Town that they are "pretty close to resolving the sanitary matters that were outstanding"

"We do not take this decision lightly, and, in fact, have been working hard over many months - indeed years - to help South Africa avoid such action. Unfortunately, the issues persist," Mr Froman said in a statement.

Eliminating barriers to US trade and investment is one of the criteria for membership of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa), which was renewed earlier this year and provides duty-free access to goods from sub-Saharan African countries, ranging from crude oil to clothing.
