Abia PDP Expresses Concern Over Delayed Inauguration of Re-elected Lawmaker

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its frustration over the prolonged delay in inaugurating Hon. Aaron Uzodike, who secured re-election as the representative for Aba North State Constituency in the 2023 polls.

Despite receiving a Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on December 13, 2023, following a court order, Uzodike's inauguration has been unduly postponed.

Abraham Amah, the Vice Chairman of the PDP in Abia, criticized the State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Emmanuel Emereuwa, for failing to inaugurate the re-elected lawmaker, while members of other parties who were similarly declared winners have already been sworn in.

Amah condemned this delay as a violation of democratic principles and highlighted that Uzodike might be the only elected official from the recent elections who remains uninaugurated.

Despite the Court of Appeal's judgment in Uzodike's favor, Amah emphasized that the government has not facilitated his inauguration into the House of Assembly, even seven months after the ruling.

He pointed out the irony that members from opposing parties have been inaugurated promptly, despite similar circumstances. Amah urged for transparency and adherence to democratic processes, emphasizing the importance of checks and balances in governance.

In response to the concerns raised by the PDP, Speaker Emmanuel Emereuwa assured that plans were underway to swear in Uzodike. He attributed the delay to legal challenges filed by other contenders for the position, emphasizing the need for due process amidst legal interventions.
