In New Mexico, authorities are searching for a suspected arsonist who allegedly set fire to his ex-girlfriend's residence while she and her children were inside.
The incident, which occurred on May 13 but was recently brought to light with the release of security camera footage, shows the woman's property in Albuquerque engulfed in flames. In a bizarre turn of events, the suspect himself is seen fleeing down the street with his clothing ablaze.
Captured by neighbor Daniel Provine's security camera, the footage depicts the suspect approaching the property with a five-gallon gas can, pouring the contents, and igniting the fire before attempting to escape. Provine, who shared the footage with authorities, expressed astonishment at the suspect's reckless actions, noting the irony of his own fiery predicament.
"I had to laugh at the sort of amateur hour situation there," Provine told KOB4. "If you’re going to commit arson, try to do it without setting yourself on fire."
Despite the destruction of three vehicles in the driveway and the spread of flames to the residence, the victim and her children emerged unharmed from the ordeal. The woman recounted watching in disbelief as the events unfolded but managed to evacuate safely with her four children.
According to a criminal complaint, the ex-girlfriend informed investigators that the suspect had contacted her multiple times before the incident and had exhibited signs of intoxication during a previous visit.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the scene, extinguishing the flames that had engulfed the vehicles and threatened the home where multiple individuals, including children, were present.
As authorities continue their search for the suspect, described as driving a white Chevrolet Silverado, the community remains on alert, hoping for swift justice in light of this terrifying incident.
