Busting Drug Rings: NDLEA Strikes Hidden Shrine and Intercepts Illicit Shipments


 The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently uncovered an illicit drug storage facility hidden within a snake-guarded shrine in Igor community, Benin City, Edo State. Operatives discovered a large hole in the shrine's wall, concealed behind wallpapers and fetish objects, containing various illicit substances such as methamphetamine, Loud, Colorado, and Arizona strains of cannabis, totaling 8.743 kilograms. During the operation, two suspects, Sonia Chinonso Ezumezu and Risikatu Tijani, were apprehended.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives raided the Usen forest in Ovia South West LGA, Edo State, arresting two suspects, Obi Ferguson and Ernest Abanum, and seizing 209 kilograms of cannabis and a motorcycle. Meanwhile, in Lagos, a consignment of 8.2 kilograms of methamphetamine was intercepted at a motor park in Mazamaza, Ojo, concealed within chocolate wraps and loudspeaker casings. A 39-year-old suspect, Michael Odiomume, was arrested in connection with the shipment.

In Abuja, a white Nissan Frontier pick-up vehicle loaded with 454 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing 340.8 kilograms, was intercepted in Kiyi village, Kuje area. A 76-year-old grandfather, Francis Omofa, linked to the consignment, was apprehended. Additionally, NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities nationwide, conducting enlightenment lectures in schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers for their efforts in both drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction. He urged them to sustain the offensive against drug cartels while intensifying social advocacy campaigns against drug abuse.
