Chilean Actor Found Dead in Colombian Airbnb After Meeting Women on Tinder

Chilean actor Alex Araya, 42, was found dead in his Airbnb vacation rental in Medellín, Colombia, after being last seen with two women he met on Tinder.

According to Chilean news outlet La Tercera, Araya's naked body was discovered lying face down in bed by a cleaner on June 7. His family, unaware of his fate until hearing it in the news, has since been trying to uncover what happened, his brother Eduardo Araya reported.

On the night before his death, Alex had met with two women from the dating app Tinder. Surveillance footage shows Alex entering the rental with the women at around 11:30 p.m. on June 6. Two hours later, the women are seen leaving without him, carrying his credit cards and phone, which they subsequently used for various purchases, Eduardo told local media.

Eduardo suspects that the women are part of a larger gang targeting tourists and believes others were involved in his brother’s untimely death. "There are more people involved," he said in Spanish. "They were part of a group dedicated to doing these things."

Although the cause of Alex's death has not been released, Eduardo believes he was drugged, possibly with scopolamine, also known as burundanga. This odorless, tasteless drug can render a person unconscious for 24 hours or more, and in larger doses, it can be fatal.

Alex had no visible signs of trauma, and his body was found in a condition similar to other tourists who have died in the area. He is the 29th tourist to die in Medellín this year.
