DCP Abba Kyari's Bail Application Struck Down by Federal High Court

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a fresh bail application submitted by detained Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, on Wednesday, June 19. Kyari, facing an eight-count charge related to drug trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), sought release pending trial, but the request was denied for lacking merit.

Justice Nwite emphasized that Kyari failed to demonstrate any exceptional circumstances justifying judicial discretion in his favor. He pointed out that a previous bail application had been rejected, with an order for expedited trial. Without evidence compelling the court to reconsider, the judge upheld the earlier decision, allowing the NDLEA to proceed with prosecution.

The ruling followed Kyari's temporary release from prison custody to attend his mother's final burial rites.
