Family Challenges Media Reports of Former Konga CEO Nick Imudia's Death, Denies Suicide Claims

The family of the late Nick Imudia, former Chief Executive of e-commerce giant Konga, has disputed reports suggesting he died by suicide. They assert that investigations into his death are ongoing and have ruled out suicide.

In a statement signed by Dr. Anthony N. Imudia, the family criticized the media's premature and unprofessional reporting of Nick Imudia’s death as a suicide. The statement highlighted that this characterization was made while the family was still at the hospital attempting to resuscitate him, raising suspicions about the accuracy and timing of these reports.

"The family of Nick Imudia is displeased with the unprofessional manner in which the media has wrongly reported Nick Imudia’s death as suicide. This view is also supported by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s office, which has pledged to investigate the sudden death of Nick. Contrary to reports, Nick did not call his brother in America with instructions on distributing his wealth, nor did he contact his daughter with any directives."

The family expressed concern about how quickly the news was reported—less than three hours after his death—before they were even aware and while medical personnel were still trying to save him.

Emphasizing that Nick Imudia was not diagnosed with depression or exhibited signs of stress, the family finds the suicide narrative suspect. Until his death, Nick was the Group CEO of D.light International in Nairobi, Kenya, where he managed global operations. He was known for his vibrant personality, and those who interacted with him shortly before his death were shocked by the media's suicide claims.

Nick was in Lagos for a brief visit after a trip to the Netherlands and was scheduled to return to Nairobi the day after his sudden death. He began his career with Nokia, managing operations in Asia from Singapore and later becoming the Managing Director of Nokia - West and Central Africa. After Microsoft acquired Nokia, he moved on to become the CEO of Konga Nigeria, where he significantly improved the company's operations.

Given Nick's accomplishments and the positive impact he had on those around him, his family and friends are deeply troubled by the suicide reports. The family requests that the media and the public allow them to grieve without the spread of unfounded rumors regarding the circumstances of his death.
