Governor Yusuf Vows to Recover N5.4 Billion Unremitted Pension Funds from Ganduje's Administration

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has pledged to use all legal avenues to recover over N5.4 billion in unremitted monthly pension contributions from the previous administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje.

Yusuf condemned the non-remittance of deducted pension contributions, calling it unacceptable. During the launch of a N5 billion gratuity payment to 4,000 retirees, he emphasized that receiving a pension is a right, not a privilege.

He urged pensioners to petition the state government to investigate the missing funds, assuring them that his administration would work to recover their money.

“The current predicament involves over N5.4 billion in deducted monthly pension contributions that were not remitted to the state treasury but diverted to personal accounts. We are determined to reclaim these funds,” Yusuf asserted.

The governor revealed that his administration inherited N43 billion in pension arrears from Ganduje's government. Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdussalam, the state Accountant General, affirmed Yusuf's commitment to clearing a decade of pension backlog.

Comrade Salisu Gwale, Chairman of the Nigeria Pensioners Union in Kano State, recounted how they had questioned the incoming administration's plans to address the pension issue, expressing disappointment over the mishandling of funds by Ganduje’s administration.
