Kano Police Commissioner Refuses to Evict Deposed Emir Amid Legal Dispute

Kano State Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, announced that the police will not evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from his Nasarawa Palace. Gumel cited ongoing legal proceedings as the reason for this decision.

The Kano State government had sought an eviction order from the state High Court, directing the police to remove Bayero to facilitate palace renovations. The eviction order was issued by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi.

However, Gumel stated that enforcing the eviction would be premature, given the court case scheduled for June 24, 2024. "The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024," he explained.

He emphasized that executing the order before the court's decision would be inappropriate, as it would effectively preempt the court’s ruling.
