An unidentified man was fatally beaten by enraged motorcycle riders, while two policemen, who were on unauthorized duty with the man, have been apprehended.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, disclosed on Saturday that two police officers affiliated with the Lagos State Taskforce had engaged in illicit duty on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, accompanied by civilians.
According to Hundeyin, the police officers and the civilians encountered hostility from motorcycle riders, leading to the death of one civilian.
Hundeyin revealed that the two police officers have been arrested and placed in custody, while efforts are underway to locate and apprehend their civilian associates.
He further stated that an investigation has been launched to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the vicious attack.
In a tweet, Hundeyin stated: "Two police officers associated with the Lagos State Taskforce embarked on unauthorized duty on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, accompanied by civilians to bolster their numbers. They faced hostility from motorcycle riders, resulting in the death of one civilian. While disciplinary measures are being taken against the detained police officers and efforts are made to locate their civilian associates, investigations are underway to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous act."
