Guy Mukendi, 39, from Brixton, has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for rape after removing his condom during sex without his partner's consent.
Mukendi's actions fall under the legal classification of "stealthing," a non-consensual condom removal considered rape under English law. The incident was reported to the Metropolitan Police on May 9, 2023, by the victim, who had only consented to sex on the condition that protection was used.
Text messages revealed Mukendi had apologized for removing the condom, claiming he did so because he had not had sex in a long time. The victim preserved screenshots of these messages before Mukendi deleted them.
Despite denying the rape charges, Mukendi was convicted and sentenced to four years and three months in prison by Inner London Crown Court.
Detective Constable Jack Earl, who led the investigation, stated, "Throughout this investigation, Mukendi denied any wrongdoing, but our officers built a compelling case that left no doubt in the jury's mind. We are dedicated to securing justice for the victim and will continue to raise awareness that this crime is a form of rape. The victim did the right thing by contacting the police immediately, and her bravery should not be overshadowed."
Kate Holmes, Head of Sexual Violence Helplines at Survivors Gateway, added, "Survivors of sexual violence in London can contact the Survivors Gateway at 0808 801 0860 for support. Our Navigators provide a confidential, non-judgmental space and can refer survivors for counseling and practical advocacy support."
