Reality TV star Mercy Eke recently took to social media to express her distress over the fate of her substantial deposits in Heritage Bank, following the revocation of the bank's license by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
In her online lamentation, Mercy revealed that she stands to lose a significant portion of her funds as the highest depositors at Heritage Bank are only guaranteed a maximum of N5 million of their money. This unfortunate situation implies that Mercy could potentially lose around N95 million.
Mercy disclosed that she had opened the account with Heritage Bank after winning Big Brother Naija because the bank was one of the sponsors of the reality show. Consequently, it was the designated account for receiving her winnings.
However, Mercy expressed regret over the decision to fix her money in the bank, especially given the knowledge that the bank was facing challenges. She blamed her financial adviser for persuading her to fix the funds despite the precarious situation of the bank.
In a poignant social media post, Mercy wrote, "I really don't know how to react about this... I have been hoping for the best... thinking there's a way out... #heritagebank."
The situation highlights the challenges faced by individuals who trust financial institutions with their savings and investments, underscoring the importance of vigilant financial management and due diligence, even when dealing with reputable institutions.
