Ondo Horror: Woman Sets Elderly Mother Ablaze, Blames Pastor's Influence

A 45-year-old housewife, known as Abiodun, also called Iya Sunday, has provided the motive behind her heinous act of setting her 86-year-old mother ablaze in Ondo town, Ondo State.

According to the suspect, her actions were influenced by her pastor's assertion that her mother was the cause of her misfortunes.

Following the gruesome incident, the elderly victim suffered severe burns all over her body and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the town.

Tragically, the aged woman passed away in the hospital due to her injuries.

An eyewitness revealed that the suspect, who visited her mother's residence around 5 a.m. on Friday, called her mother outside and then proceeded to douse her in petrol before setting her on fire.

While the exact cause of the confrontation between them remains unknown, the suspect has been apprehended by the Enu-Owa division of the police for further investigation.

In her confession, Abiodun stated that she took such drastic action because she was convinced by her pastor's claim that her mother was responsible for her hardships.

She admitted, "I poured petrol on her body and set her on fire because I was told by the pastor and another woman that my freedom from bondage could only be attained if my mother was no longer alive."

Confirming the tragic incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami, disclosed that the suspect had been arrested, and an interrogation was underway.

Sadly, the victim succumbed to her injuries and passed away in the hospital a few days after being admitted.
