American singer Ray J recently asserted that he and his ex-girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, played a significant role in paving the way for adult content platforms like OnlyFans with their notorious sex tape.
During a wide-ranging interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast with Shannon Sharpe on Wednesday, June 5, the 43-year-old "One Wish" hitmaker discussed the impact of the 2007 video, "Kim Kardashian, Superstar," featuring himself and the SKIMS founder, also 43.
Ray J reflected on the significance of the tape, suggesting that "everything would be different" if it hadn't surfaced. He speculated, "Probably more people would be going to college... there might not be any OnlyFans and other things like that." He pondered, "Are we a part of the cure or are we a part of the disease? I don't f*****g know. I'm just trying to make it right."
The musician also shared how his perspective has changed now that he has children, admitting that he feels "embarrassed" about the tape's release. "Everything that we did, now that I have kids, is totally different. The whole thing is wacky," he said. He added, "Without me going too far into it, without me getting in trouble... No, it's not okay now."
This isn't the first time Ray J has spoken about the sex tape with Kim. In 2022, he claimed that her mother, Kris Jenner, 68, selected one of three sex tapes he shot with Kim for release. According to Ray J, Jenner watched the three tapes and decided to release the one filmed at a resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He also stated that two of the tapes were shot in Cabo San Lucas and one in Santa Barbara, California.
In a bombshell interview with DailyMail in May 2022, Ray J alleged that Kim herself orchestrated the release of the infamous tape, keeping the only copy in a Nike shoebox under her bed along with other intimate recordings they made together. He claimed that Kris Jenner introduced him to Vivid CEO Steven Hirsch, the company that eventually released the tape in 2007.
Jenner has consistently denied any involvement in the tape's release, which significantly boosted the family's profile and led to their unprecedented success in reality TV and marketing. In 2022, Jenner passed a polygraph test on The Late Late Show, where a polygrapher confirmed she was truthful in saying she did not arrange for the tape's release.
Ray J and Kim Kardashian dated on and off from 2003 to 2007. Ray J has two children, Melody Love, six, and Epik Ray, four, with his estranged wife, Princess Love. Kim Kardashian shares four children with her ex-husband Kanye West: daughters North, 11, and Chicago, six, and sons Saint, eight, and Psalm, five.
