State House Spends N244.6 Million on Tyres in a Single Day

According to reports, the State House reportedly spent an astonishing N244,654,350 on the purchase and supply of tyres in a single day.

An investigation and data collected from GovSpend, a portal that records Presidential Villa expenditures, revealed that the State House made payments for an unspecified quantity of bulletproof tyres and Westlake tyres during the week marking President Bola Tinubu's first year in office.

Documents indicated that on May 21, 2024, payments amounting to N200,583,390, N38,070,000, and N6,000,960 were made for these items.

The documents disclosed that two separate payments were made for the acquisition and supply of tyres (no specified quantity) for bulletproof vehicles, along with five armoured bulletproof tyres, to Obi-Wealth Enterprises Nigeria Limited (RC-640684), totaling N200,583,390 and N38,070,000.

A quick search on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) website revealed that the company is currently inactive.

Hommy & Fay Investments Limited, which is active on the CAC portal, managed the other part of the supply, providing an unspecified number of Westlake tyres (315/80R22) for N6,000,960.

The payments for the tyres were made barely 24 hours after Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, apologized to Nigerians for the nationwide hardship.

During a ministerial sectoral update, he stated that the policies of the Tinubu-led government were on track despite the currency crisis and inflation that have hampered economic growth.
