Teen Actress Angel Unigwe Denies Contract Breach Allegations by Kanayo O Kanayo

Angel Unigwe has denied veteran actor Kanayo O Kanayo's accusations that she, with her mother's help, breached their contract.

Kanayo O Kanayo recently accused the teen actress of failing to fulfill a contract for a production she was hired for. He also alleged that Unigwe’s mother frequently disrupts productions by prematurely removing her daughter from sets.

Angry about the situation, Kanayo threatened to disrupt any film projects involving Unigwe, citing an incident where she was taken off a set at 9 pm when it was contractually supposed to end at midnight. He claimed this action was to "save and protect" Nigeria’s film industry.

In response, Juliet Kings, Unigwe’s manager, issued a statement refuting Kanayo’s allegations as "false and slanderous." She clarified that Unigwe left the set after fulfilling her contractual obligations, which included a 9 pm wrap-up time.

"We wish to state categorically that we honor all our contracts and are committed to fulfilling our obligations," Kings said. "We deny Mr. Kanayo’s false accusations and slanderous statements. Between June 17th and June 19th, 2024, Miss Unigwe participated in a film project under clear terms, including a daily wrap time of 9 pm."

Kings explained that despite their concerns about the feasibility of filming 57 scenes in three days, they proceeded based on assurances from Kanayo and the film director, Ndifreke Matthew. They even accommodated an additional 45-50 minutes of filming on the final day beyond the agreed time.

Kings condemned Kanayo’s claims as "cyberbullying" and "gender-based oppression," which have caused Unigwe "emotional distress." She also mentioned that legal action has been initiated and called on security agencies to ensure Unigwe’s safety.
