Nigeria has lost two more pilgrims participating in the ongoing Hajj operations in Saudi Arabia, as announced by the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board on Thursday, June 13.
The deceased, Salman Muhammad Alade and Ayishat Shuaib Ologele, passed away after brief illnesses. Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board, extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for their comfort and for Allah’s forgiveness for the departed souls.
Earlier, Abdulkadir had reported the death of Hajia Hawawu Muhammad, who tragically died in Madina following a suicidal incident from the rooftop of her apartment. Additionally, Saliu Mohammed, another pilgrim from Kwara, passed away in an intensive care unit of a public hospital in Madina after a sudden illness.
With these recent losses, the total number of Nigerian pilgrims who have died in Saudi Arabia ahead of this year’s Hajj, commencing on Friday, June 14, has reached 11.
Previously, the deaths of two pilgrims from Kebbi State were reported: Hajiya Tawalkatu Busare Alako, also known as Maman Biyu, who passed away on May 25 in Makkah shortly after arriving from Madina, and Alhaji Muhammad Suleman, who died in Makkah less than 24 hours later. The Kebbi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board also announced the passing of Abubakar Abdullahi from Gulma town in Argungu Local Government Area, Kebbi State.
In May, the board reported the deaths of Tawakaltu Alamo and Muhammad Suleiman, both from Kebbi State. Additionally, a Lagos State pilgrim, 68-year-old Oloshogbo Isiaka Idris, died on Tuesday, May 28, in Makkah after performing tawaf (circumambulation) at the Grand Mosque as part of Umrah (lesser Hajj).
