Media personality Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu has reiterated her controversial advice to women, encouraging them to use their bodies to escape poverty if that is their only option. She made this statement on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, while responding to the backlash from her previous post, which has been trending on Facebook.
In her initial post, Ahaghotu wrote:
"If your body is all you have to offer, use it and get out of poverty. After all, you are already using it for 'I will marry you' and recharge card, so why not use it to escape poverty?"
Following the widespread reaction, Ahaghotu posted a follow-up message:
"I hear this is trending again. If your body is all you have to offer... use it and stay poor then. That's right, only poor people's love is considered genuine. It's acceptable for a woman to offer her body when a man promises marriage and gives her a little money for transportation."
She continued:
**"It's okay to benefit from her cooking, cleaning, and washing while you string her along with promises. That's the true love you're talking about, right? Testing and tasting to see if she will make a good wife material while exploiting her – that’s the virtuous way?
"It's also okay for her to use her body to get married so her in-laws can send you abroad or start a business for you, helping the family escape poverty. That, apparently, is real love.
"Yet, it's rich coming from a group that uses their bodies and fake marriages just to get a visa to foreign countries. It's fine when men use their own bodies to seek greener pastures and dodge immigration issues. If your body is all you have to offer... use it and stay poor then."**
Ahaghotu's statements have sparked significant debate, with many criticizing her perspective while others argue that she is simply being pragmatic about the harsh realities faced by some women.
