Big Brother Naija Announces Season Nine Premiere Amid Controversy Over Unfulfilled Prizes

Big Brother Naija organizers have announced that season nine of the reality TV show will premiere in July 2024. This announcement was made via a post on their official X account on Sunday, June 30, 2024, which included a teaser photo hinting at the new edition's theme and the caption, “One Sunday in July. Get ready.”

This news comes amidst controversy surrounding the sponsors of the season seven "Level Up" edition, who have been accused of failing to fulfill their promises to the winner, Phyna. Recently, Phyna publicly called out the BBNaija organizers and sponsors for not delivering all the promised prizes and money.

Following Multichoice's announcement of auditions for the ninth edition, the Practitioners of Content Creating, Skit-Making, and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN) also highlighted the alleged owed prizes to Phyna, urging Multichoice to facilitate the release of these prizes from the sponsors.

Phyna has expressed frustration over the difficulties in claiming her prizes, particularly emphasizing the 1 BTC promised by Quidax, which she says is now valued at over N90 million. Despite a recent offer from Quidax to give her N13 million, reflecting the BTC value at the time of the pledge, Phyna has rejected this offer, insisting on receiving the 1 BTC.

Additionally, Phyna is demanding the trip-for-two to the Maldives, another part of her prize package. She has been vocal on social media about the issue, questioning the silence of Nigerians on the matter and vowing to continue demanding her full prizes.
