Paul Dans, the leader of Project 2025, is stepping down from his role at the Heritage Foundation amid internal conflicts over staffing for a potential second Trump administration. Dans’s departure comes after increasing pressure from Trump campaign officials and a power struggle over control of government positions should Trump win in November.
Dans, who previously served in personnel roles in Trump's first term, announced his departure in an internal email, citing the project's conclusion following the political conventions. "Our work is presently winding down, and I plan later in August to leave Heritage," Dans stated, signaling a shift in focus as the electoral season intensifies.
Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts confirmed that Dans's departure was part of a pre-established timeline and thanked him for his contributions. Roberts emphasized that Project 2025’s policy framework and personnel database remain intact, despite the leadership change.
