During a Senate session on Thursday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio admonished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on the Senate floor.
The incident occurred when the Senate was deliberating on the second reading of a bill. President Akpabio called for votes, asking those in favor to say ‘Aye’ and those against to say ‘Nay’. The ‘Nay’ response was notably louder. As Akpabio considered his next move, Senator Natasha stood up to voice her opposition to the bill’s second reading.
“Mr. President, we don’t want it to be killed. We just want a bit of modification. We don’t want the bill killed but there should be slight modification,” she explained.
In response, Akpabio reminded her of the procedural rules. “You see, Senator Natasha, in the chamber, you have to be recognized before you speak. We’re not in a nightclub.”
Natasha promptly apologized, saying, “Oh, pardon me,” and then returned to her seat.
