Shiloh Jolie, the daughter of former celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has decided to drop her father's last name. Shiloh, who turned 18 on May 27, marked her birthday by filing for the name change, which was publicly announced through a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times.
In a statement issued by Shiloh's lawyer, Peter Levine, it was clarified that her decision was made independently and was prompted by significant personal experiences. Levine emphasized that the publication of the name change was a legal requirement in California and not an "ad" as some media outlets inaccurately reported.
"Shiloh Jolie did not take out an 'ad' announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate," Levine stated, according to People. He further explained, "As Shiloh's attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required."
Shiloh is not the only child of the ex-couple to make this change. Her sisters, Zahara, 19, and Vivienne, 16, have also dropped the Pitt surname, although it remains unclear if Vivienne has completed the legal process.
Recent reports indicate that Brad Pitt has had minimal contact with his older children. According to a source who spoke to People, Pitt's relationship with his older kids remains strained, with the source noting, "He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule."
Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2019 after five years of marriage. Since their split, the two have been embroiled in a contentious legal battle over their French vineyard and home. The dispute intensified after Jolie sold her $64 million stake in the property to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021.
