VIDEO: Serena Williams Pays Tribute to Andy Murray for His Tennis Career and Advocacy

Serena Williams expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Andy Murray in a social media tribute, commending him for his remarkable career in tennis and his advocacy for women's rights in the sport. Murray, a three-time grand slam champion, is playing his final Wimbledon and was honored with a ceremony on Centre Court.

In a video shared on a social media platform, Williams praised Murray's fiery on-court presence, jokingly noting that he could be even more fiery than herself, which she found thrilling to witness. Reflecting on their experience playing mixed doubles together at Wimbledon in 2019, Williams described it as a highlight of her life.

"Congratulations to you Andy Murray for such an incredible career," Williams said warmly. "I've always enjoyed watching you play. One of the reasons is because you were one of the few players who could match my intensity on the court, which is no easy feat."

Williams went on to emphasize the special place Murray holds in her heart for his vocal support of women's rights and equality in tennis. Murray has been a pioneer in this regard, notably hiring Amélie Mauresmo as his coach and consistently advocating for women's tennis.

"You've always spoken out so much for women and everything that women deserve," Williams affirmed. "You were a leader in that, acknowledging the achievements of female players like myself and Venus, which meant a lot to me personally."

Reflecting on Murray's achievements, including his Wimbledon and US Open victories and Olympic gold medals, Williams expressed her continued admiration and support for him in his future endeavors. "I will always be cheering for you and rooting you on in whatever you decide to do next," she concluded warmly.
