Anambra Governor Blames Nigeria’s Agricultural Neglect for #EndBadGovernance Protests

In a recent address during the launch of Anambra State's ‘Operation Farm to Feed Campaign,’ Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo attributed the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria to the country’s historical neglect of agriculture. Speaking in Awka on Saturday, Soludo emphasized the critical role of farming in addressing hunger and improving national stability.

Soludo expressed his satisfaction that Anambra youths have chosen to engage in productive activities rather than participate in the protests sweeping across various parts of Nigeria. He praised the state's residents for their commitment to maintaining peace and continuing their daily routines. “The markets in Anambra State are open, and I commend the youths for their resolve to take positive steps towards advancing their state and country,” Soludo remarked.

The Governor highlighted the historical context of Nigeria’s agricultural decline, referencing past initiatives like ‘Operation Feed the Nation’ and the ‘Green Revolution,’ which he claimed were neglected and contributed to the current issues. “The neglect of agriculture has been detrimental,” he said. “What we are launching today is a collective effort to eradicate hunger and transform our challenges into opportunities.”

Soludo reflected on the hardships experienced during the Civil War, noting that despite severe food shortages and malnutrition, the people of Anambra endured. He expressed confidence that the state could overcome current hunger issues and contribute to feeding the nation.

In closing, Soludo thanked the people of Anambra, particularly the youth, for their decision to focus on farming rather than participating in the protests. “We are here to take action, not just to survive but to help feed the rest of the country,” he concluded, underscoring the campaign’s goal of fostering agricultural development as a means of national progress.
