Chelsea FC has officially announced the signing of Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino, marking their eighth new acquisition of the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old joins from Boca Juniors in a deal valued around £15 million but will remain on loan at his former club for the entirety of the 2024/25 season.
The Blues confirmed the signing via their official X account: "Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of defender Aaron Anselmino, who will spend the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Boca Juniors." Anselmino has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, reflecting the club’s long-term commitment to the young talent.
Anselmino’s move adds to Chelsea’s growing list of Argentine players, continuing a tradition that includes notable names such as Hernan Crespo, Gonzalo Higuain, Juan Sebastian Veron, Willy Caballero, Franco Di Santo, and current star Enzo Fernandez.
This latest acquisition is part of Chelsea's significant summer spending spree, which has seen the club invest over £110 million in new talent. Alongside Anselmino, Chelsea has brought in Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, and Filip Jorgensen.
In addition to their purchases, Chelsea has managed to recoup nearly £90 million from player sales. This summer, they have offloaded several players, including Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, Hakim Ziyech, and Jamie Cumming, all for substantial transfer fees. Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr were also released from their contracts.
Conor Gallagher is the latest player set to depart, with the midfielder expected to join Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks.
