Edo PDP Governorship Candidate Sues Senator Oshiomhole for N20 Billion Over Defamatory Comments

Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21 election in Edo State, has filed a lawsuit against Senator Adams Oshiomhole, demanding N20 billion in damages.

Ighodalo's legal team, led by Ayo Asala (SAN) & Associates, accuses Oshiomhole of making false and defamatory statements about him in relation to the Planwell scheme. The lawsuit also demands an immediate retraction and public apology from Oshiomhole, which should be broadcast on at least two national television networks and published in three major newspapers.

Ighodalo claims that Oshiomhole’s allegations are baseless and intended to tarnish his reputation for political gain. He describes the statements as malicious fabrications designed to undermine his candidacy and benefit Oshiomhole’s party in the upcoming gubernatorial race.

In a letter dated September 16, 2024, Ighodalo’s lawyers addressed Oshiomhole, stating that during a campaign rally on September 14, 2024, Oshiomhole alleged that Ighodalo was involved in the Planwell scheme, which purportedly defrauded Nigerians. The letter highlights that these accusations were widely disseminated through television and social media.

The letter also criticizes Oshiomhole for his pattern of making false statements and accuses him of using misinformation to further his political agenda.
