The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has instructed all political parties in Edo State to halt their campaign activities ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024. In a statement posted on INEC's official X account, the Commission reminded political parties that campaigns must end by midnight on Thursday, September 19.
INEC emphasized that it is unlawful for any party in Edo to engage in rallies, processions, or media campaigns after the deadline, in line with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022. The Commission also warned that violators could face sanctions as provided in Section 96 of the same Act.
Additionally, INEC instructed that on Election Day, political parties, candidates, and their supporters must refrain from wearing campaign attire or carrying campaign materials at polling units.
The directive aims to ensure compliance with election laws and maintain a peaceful atmosphere as Edo State prepares for the governorship election.
