Judo athlete Majdov expressed his disappointment on Instagram after receiving a five-month suspension from the International Judo Federation (IJF) for making the sign of the cross before a match at the Olympic Games. He stated he felt sorry that such a beautiful sport as judo had come to face these issues.
Despite the suspension, Majdov remains firm in his Christian faith and plans to return to judo next year. He shared that he received the suspension notice 15 days ago and clarified that he did not apologize during the disciplinary proceedings, nor does he intend to in the future.
Majdov emphasized the importance of his faith in his life and career, stating, "The Lord has given me everything... and He is number one for me." He reflected on his successful career, which includes seven European medals and three world medals, expressing gratitude for the support of his family who sacrificed for his success.
He views the suspension as a new chapter in his life, stating, "Nothing new for me personally, just a new page in my career and a new life experience."
