Shelby Daniele, a standout track athlete who set records at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), has sadly passed away. The university's athletic department announced her death in an Instagram statement on Friday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of someone they described as having a "remarkable heart." The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
Daniele was a dedicated student, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree from Cal Poly. During her time at the university, she served as the team captain and received numerous accolades, including six All-Big West honors and two Big West championships.
She held the school record for the indoor 200 meters with a time of 24.69 seconds and ranked among the top competitors in the 60 meters and 100 meters indoors. Tragically, Shelby had just completed her master's degree in agriculture in June, celebrating the achievement with her family and beaming with pride.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Shelby aimed to "improve the environment and give back to our society," which influenced her decision to pursue a career in agriculture. She was only 23 years old.
Rest in peace, Shelby.
