Danielle Collins Reverses Retirement Decision, Plans to Return in 2025

American tennis star Danielle Collins has announced a change in her retirement plans, revealing she will extend her career on the WTA Tour and return in 2025. The 30-year-old made the announcement on her Instagram on Thursday, citing health challenges and recent events that led her to reconsider her decision.

Collins, who had earlier expressed intentions to retire after the 2024 season, shared that dealing with endometriosis and fertility issues has been a significant challenge. “It’s something many women go through, and I’m working closely with a team of specialists, but the process is taking longer than I anticipated,” she wrote in her post.

Known for her fierce competitive spirit, Collins reassured her fans that "the DANIMAL story" is far from over and that she plans to return to professional tennis in 2025.

Her announcement came shortly after a media release for the United Cup in Australia listed her as part of Team USA for the tournament scheduled from December 27 to January 5. Alongside fellow American Coco Gauff, Collins is set to participate in the event as a warm-up for the 2025 Australian Open, which kicks off on January 12.

Collins reached her career-best Grand Slam result in 2022, finishing as the runner-up to Ash Barty at the Australian Open. Despite her success, Collins has had a difficult 2024 season, including an injury retirement in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics during a heated match with Iga Swiatek, and an early exit in the first round of the US Open. She is currently ranked ninth on the WTA Tour in singles.

Reflecting on her journey, Collins remains optimistic about the future. “While there are no guarantees, I’m hopeful that I can build on my momentum in 2024 and keep competing until I have more clarity regarding my personal fertility journey," she said. "For now, expect more epic matches ahead.”
