The Federal Government has indicated plans to evacuate Nigerians from Lebanon as tensions between Israel and Iran escalate. The move follows increased hostility, particularly after Iran launched 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday, October 1, in retaliation for the killing of Iran-backed militant leaders.
Given Lebanon’s proximity to Israel and Iran—along with neighboring Iraq and Jordan—the region is expected to be severely impacted by the ongoing violence.
In a statement posted on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday evening, Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, urged Nigerians in Lebanon to contact the Nigerian mission for necessary documentation and preparations for evacuation. He tweeted via his handle, @DOlusegun, saying: “Alert! All Nigerians in Lebanon are expected to get in touch with the Nigerian mission for profiling and documentation and subsequent evacuation.”
As the situation in the region worsens, the government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its citizens living abroad.
