Federal Ministry of Aviation Mandates Local Catering for Outbound Flights

The Federal Ministry of Aviation has announced a new directive requiring foreign airlines operating in Nigeria to use local caterers for in-flight meals on all outbound flights. This policy is set to take effect on January 1, 2025.

The announcement was made by H.T. Ejibunu, the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, in a letter addressed to the Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

In the letter, it was stated, "I am directed by the Honourable Minister of Aviation to convey to you his decision to mandate all outbound flights from Nigeria, especially foreign airlines, to patronize local caterers for on-board meals." The ministry highlighted the necessity of compliance with this directive by all foreign airlines operating within the country.

The letter further instructed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to inform all foreign airlines of this requirement for strict adherence starting January 1, 2025. Additional details and implementation strategies regarding the new policy are expected to be released by the ministry in the coming months.
