Fire Incident at Federal Ministry of Works Headquarters Sparks Panic in Abuja

There was panic on Friday morning after a fire broke out at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja. The incident, which occurred shortly after employees resumed for the day, was traced to a faulty circuit breaker on the ground floor of the building.

According to the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, the fire began around 11:30 am but was quickly brought under control before significant damage occurred.

Ahmed explained, "The fire was a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor. Fortunately, the situation was swiftly managed."

The Station Commander of the Federal Fire Service at the Ministry, Mr. Kekai Bekebi, confirmed the rapid response of his team. Fire extinguishers were used to contain the flames, and a successful evacuation of staff was carried out as a precautionary measure.

Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, confirmed that no documents were lost, and no injuries or casualties were reported during the incident. He also commended the staff for their orderly conduct during the evacuation.

Normal operations have since resumed at the ministry, with maintenance crews already clearing debris and restoring the affected area.
