JAMB Updates Minimum Age Requirement for 2024/2025 Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Thursday that universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria can now admit candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025. This adjustment applies to the 2024/2025 academic session for students who meet the necessary admission criteria.

Earlier this year, the minimum age for admission was set at 16 years old during the 2024 Policy Meeting, with a cut-off date of December 31, 2024. The decision had sparked mixed reactions from parents and concerned citizens.

In response to institutions extending their admission processes until July 2025, JAMB, through its Public Relations Officer, Fabian Benjamin, released a statement clarifying the revised age requirement. The board explained that candidates turning 16 by August 31, 2025, are now eligible for admission, ensuring fairness for all prospective students.

The statement emphasized that any institution preferring to maintain the 16-year minimum age within 2024 is free to do so, allowing flexibility in the admissions process.
