Former Manchester City Defender Benjamin Mendy Reveals Financial Struggles During Legal Battle

Benjamin Mendy, the former Manchester City defender, has revealed that he had to borrow money during his legal troubles. Mendy, who was accused of rape and sexual assault while playing for City, was suspended by the club without pay as he fought to clear his name.

In a witness statement during a legal case against Manchester City, where he is seeking a refund of his unpaid wages following his acquittal on all charges, Mendy praised former teammates Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez for offering financial support. He shared that they lent him money to cover his legal fees and help support his family during the challenging period.

"Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez all lent me money to help me pay my legal fees and support my family," Mendy, who now plays for Lorient in France, disclosed in the statement.

Mendy also mentioned that he refused several attempts by Manchester City to terminate his contract, as he remained determined to return to training with the team. He emphasized in his statement that he believed it was only fair to receive the wages he would have earned if not for his wrongful arrest.

The legal case marks another chapter in Mendy's quest for compensation following his acquittal, as he seeks to recover lost earnings during the period of his suspension.
