The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reported the recovery of more than N13 billion in public funds that were diverted in September 2024.
Musa Aliyu, the Chairman of the ICPC, shared this information during the launch of the Commission's strategic action plan for 2024-2028 in Abuja on Wednesday. While he highlighted the significant recovery, he did not specify the sources of the funds.
Aliyu emphasized the Commission's commitment to fulfilling its mandate and mentioned ongoing efforts to digitalize its operations. This initiative aims to enhance the ICPC's capabilities in using technology to fight corruption effectively. He noted that the ICPC is also developing a specialized training curriculum to strengthen the enforcement skills of its personnel.
In addition, the Chairman announced that the ICPC is intensifying its efforts to identify vulnerabilities within institutions and administrative processes through System Studies and Corruption Risk Assessments.
“Over the past year, the ICPC has made significant progress in discharging its mandate. For instance, we recovered over N13 billion in diverted public funds in September 2024 alone,” Aliyu stated. He added that the ongoing ICT reforms would enable the Commission to conduct more efficient investigations and improve case management, ultimately positioning it as a leader in leveraging technology to combat corruption in a digital age.
