Janice Combs, mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has publicly defended her son as he faces serious allegations, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and sexual assault. Through her lawyer, Natlie G. Figgers, Janice condemned the way her son is being treated in the media, asserting that he deserves the opportunity to prove his innocence in court.
In her statement, Janice expressed deep sorrow at witnessing what she perceives as a public lynching of her son. "It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies," she said. She added that the pain of watching her son face such accusations before having a chance to defend himself is unbearable.
While supporting Diddy, Janice acknowledged that he has made mistakes in his past, including a 2016 incident where he was seen on hotel surveillance physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura. “I am not here to portray my son as perfect because he is not,” she stated, recognizing that everyone has flaws and makes errors.
A significant legal issue for Diddy is a lawsuit filed by Ventura last November, where she accused him of rape, sex trafficking, and years of abuse. Although the lawsuit was settled shortly after being filed, Janice provided insights into why her son may have chosen this route. "Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story," she explained.
Janice speculated that the complexity of the situation may have influenced Diddy’s legal team's decision to settle rather than fight the claims, which the federal government interpreted as an admission of guilt. As new accusers come forward, she expressed concern that many of these allegations are motivated by financial gain, saying, “These individuals saw how quickly my son's civil legal team settled his ex-girlfriend's lawsuit, so they believe they can receive a quick payday by falsely accusing my son.”
Furthermore, Janice raised alarm over the impact of false allegations on genuine victims of sexual assault, stating, “False allegations of sexual assault thwart true victims of sexual violence from getting the justice they deserve.”
Janice expressed frustration over her son’s ongoing legal challenges, lamenting the public’s reaction to his situation. "Watching the world make jokes and laugh at my son's life crumbling before our eyes is something I can never forget," she stated. As a mother, witnessing the public scrutiny and legal issues her son faces has been particularly painful for her. "This injustice has been unbearable for our family," she said, emphasizing the emotional toll of the allegations on their lives.
Despite the challenges, Janice remains hopeful that her son will have the opportunity to clear his name. "My son is not the monster they have painted him to be, and he deserves the chance to tell his side," she concluded, expressing her wish to see him vindicated.
