Nigerian Police Issue High Alert Following Terror Threats in Kwara and Kogi States

The Nigeria Police Force has raised a high alert status for all police formations in Kwara and Kogi States due to intelligence reports suggesting a potential terrorist attack in the Omu-Aran area of Kwara State, which could also impact the Yagba West region of Kogi State.

Police commanders and Deputy Police Officers in Osun State have been instructed to enhance vigilance in law enforcement agencies, particularly in bordering areas. The directive emphasizes the need for increased patrol operations and preventive measures to combat potential kidnappings in their jurisdictions.

A police wireless communication obtained by SaharaReporters on Monday highlighted the urgency of the situation, declaring that commands should remain alert for the next 72 hours. The message was signed by the Directorate of Operations from the Osun State Police Command and read: "TERRORISTS ATTACK X INTREP MINE INDICATES THAT TERRORISTS ARE ASSEMBLING TO LAUNCH ATTACK IN THE NEXT 72HRS ON OMU-ARAN KWARA STATE TO YAGBA WEST AXIS OF WESTERN KOGI STATE."

In recent weeks, Kwara South has seen a surge in kidnapping incidents. Last Thursday, armed assailants attacked the Oreke-Okegbo community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area, resulting in one injury and a fatality during a botched kidnapping attempt.

Earlier this month, Chief Lukman Balogun, a well-known vigilante commander also known as “Jagun,” was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen during an operation aimed at rescuing three abducted individuals in the Igbaja community, located in the Ifelodun Local Government Area. The incident occurred as Jagun was tracking the kidnappers responsible for the abduction of a prominent Igbaja resident.

As the situation unfolds, police officials are urging all personnel to treat the alerts as highly important and to prioritize the safety of their communities.
